Weeks after Zenith told Vince and Ursula about the colony ship heâd been building, there was an entire team dedicated to making this ship into a symbol of hope. More people from Darcya and surrounding planets pledge their allegiance to Project Unity, despite all odds against their survival. Among them were also Kelly, Ollie, Jan, and her son Tim. At that point, the encampment at the Zapper moon expanded greatly, hosting a full-sized hangar reserved for the colony ship.
Zenith supervised the construction of the ship. He was the type of leader that no one enjoyed followingâcontrolling and always exacting the most from his team. With him, there were no breaks, and there were no excuses. If one team member was given a job, theyâd try their best to do it right and on time lest they would want to listen to a squeaky voice repeat the same lecture they heard him give one of their colleagues.
Zenith and his wife Corinth were allowed refuge with Project Unity after he provided the colony ship. However, both of them were under strict surveillance at all times, and the heads of Project Unity did not hide that fact at all. Zenith and Corinth did not have any communication devices, were not allowed to use anyone elseâs under any circumstances, and were visually and aurally monitored at every. The surveillance team could not even stop the microphone or camera when they visited the bathroom and relieved themselves. It was an undoubtedly invasive and discomforting experience, but such was the price for double-crossing friends and still seeking their help.
âWhereâs Zenith?â Vince said as he approached one of the construction crew members in hangar seventeen, where the colony ship was stored.
âHeâs under the hull. Been there a while. Must be done, now,â the crew member said.
It was nighttime on the Zapper moon, and the crew was pulling in another late shift at the hangar. All the heads of Project Unity compensated the crew members to the best of their abilityânot just for their service but also for enduring Zenithâs incessant nagging during work hours. Resources may have been scarce for Project Unity, but their appreciation never felt inadequate to them.
Under the floodlights in the hangar, Vince saw a pair of feet sticking out from under the shipâs body. Working boots covered the feet with the green fabric of the overalls peaking from above. Vince tapped the body of the ship twice and bent below to look at the person working under it.
âYou all right there, buddy?â he said.
âVince! My man! How are ya? Iâve beenâ¦well, you must already know how Iâve been since youâve been watching me all the time,â Zenith said.
âYou know that was your own fault. Maybe thereâll come a day we can trust you enough to at least put the monitors off when you take a dump.â
âHa. Ha. Whatâre you gonna learn from that? Câmon! Anyway, what can I do for ya?â
âJust checking in. What kind of ETA are we looking at for this ship to be up and running?â
âAbout three days.
